Of late I am having a rough patch in MWO. I got my Heavy metal and been working my atlases but nothing goes my way. Currently sitting at 1.65 KDR, having fallen from 1.75 or so couple weeks ago. Is this any good? I just have no frame of reference. What is a good KDR? I see people with >4 and just don't know how they do it :)

For every 4 or rare 5 kill match i have there are scores of 0 kill and die matches where PUGs just go off on their own to die and even when i am grouped the 2, 3, or 4 of us can't take on the world. Sometimes i just get so frustrated and the stupidity in the game (including my own). Or i am just baffled. I can't make a 6 LL stalker work cause the darn things melt but they do great against me all the time. :)

I want to do 8-mans but it is just the killing fields when we get in there due to the really really good groups and we just don't learn much other than how to die

I would say that if you're above 1.00 you're in good shape. Unless you fourman. Then you've got no excuse.

I'm at 1.54 1.50. I'm not a serious hardcore player. I just like to pop into games and kill stuff. I'm sure if I sat here long enough it could be a lot higher. It could also be a lot higher if I played in groups.
I usually rank about 2-6 assists a game though.

In my opinion, anything above 1:1 and you're doing alright. It means you've killed more than you died. Also keep in mind that kills are only tracked by how often you landed the killing blow on a mech - it says nothing of how much damage you have actually contributed.

Also, as a side note: I make my 6 large laser Stalker work by only firing a maximum of two alphas and if the target still isn't dead I continuously fire only 2 large lasers at him because I can hold the button down on a group of only 2 and never overheat. Either that or I duck behind something and wait to cool down enough for another alpha.

W/L ratio is much more important than KDR, but may be harder to maintain with Elo in effect.

>3 KDR is probably good. If you want to join an 8's team look for an active group that has multiple lances running and will get you started on their B or C team.

Getting better a mechs takes a lot of time, but it will go much faster if you have someone willing to teach you the ins and outs.

In my spiders? I consider 0.34 to be AWESOME. In my 5V? It's 0.06 =/

For the record, I do not consider myself a bad pilot. My KDR is 1.06 in my Atlas and 2.33 in my Cat-K1. My light mechs get sent through the meat grinder a bit, but my heavies and up dole out the harshness.

I generally only look at the change in my stats.

If the K/D, W/L ratios get better compared to the last time I checked then I'm doing good. If they decrease which occasionally happens after a really bad day then I'm not doing good.

I wish they would track the assists. In a no respawn game mode I feel like getting killing blows is, on occasion, a matter of luck over anything else.

K/D doesn't really tell you much by itself. It is indicative that you're contributing by taking robots out of the fight, but it doesn't tell you how many kills you did the heavy lifting on.

Like others, KDRs are affected by leveling up sub optimal variants so that you can get elite/master in the variant you care about

Id say that a KDR matters more the longer you play and how consistant it is. If you have played 1000+ matches and your KDR is:

1+ means average/you can hold your own.
2+ means you are better than average.
3+ Experienced/pretty good
4+ Well above average/Often scores at the top in matches..
5+ and beyond - Exceptional. Top 10% Often carries team to victory.

Remember, these only count if its a consistant score after many games.

However... I think everyones KDR may slowly be evening out because of ELO matchmaking....

I think a greater than 1 is a good ratio although average KDR and KDR for individual mechs are not very meaningful because both depends on your play style. W/L ratio and damage per match for individual mechs are much more insightful statistics.

You need 3+ to even be considered not being carried every game.

KDR is meaningless when judging skill in a game that features win conditions besides killing. The more you pay attention to it the worse you are.
